Doing a 426 with stock 11 to 1 max wedge pistons for the street I don't have heads yet for this motor going in 65 Belvedere 727 what head and cam do you think will work with this setup? Most likely 3.23 OR 3.55 single four barrel 516/915/346/452.

Thos old pistons have some pretty funky domes to them – and running a close chambered head such as the 516 or 915 may give you issues with detonation on pump gas – running an open chamber head (452 -906) will take away some compression and might get you into a happy 10-1 range. But flame travel with those old domes is not the best. As far as cams you did not say what type of cam you were going with Hydraulic or Solid but either way with those pistons you should plan on keeping the lift below .520 and with the intent on running a relatively mild gear and an automatic – keep the duration around 220-225 @.50. I see you’re in NE Ohio – so I am I if have any questions please feel free to PM me – I have a 426 MW in my 65 Coronet

The 11-1 pistons have a very mild dome on them ... I would put this motor together with a set of 915's with the chambers opened-up and polished. For your combo ...with a short gear and heavy car ? ... a 509 is a good choice.

the 11:1 pistons have very little dome. a closed chamber head would be better for quench. an engle k65 cam comes close to duplicating the 415hp camshaft.

Does your budget limit you to iron heads or can you run an aluminum head ? Ron

There are two different versions of the 415 HP M.W., 1963 had a .065 dome and the 1964 had a .110 or .120 dome hieght. The 425 HP pistons are the same for both years Iron heads and pump gas can be catostrophic IF, or WHEN, pinging or detonation occurs If you absolutely must use those pistons, either year, then I would use the 452 head and a 440 Fel Pro Perma Torque stock type head gasket to control the compression ratio. The 452 castings had hard exhuast seats from the factory and big combustion chamber for detonation control

Thank's for the opinions guys I came across this short block it had been sitting in someones garage for 40+ years was put together in late sixties and sat streetwedge block with max wedge pistons and full grooved crank with pinned rod bearins real old school block was cut with vave reliefs but the max wedge heads and manifolds were long gone polished the crank and quick hone and I will reassemble.I need to check on dome height and then look for some heads thanks.

Almost sounds like you were in my garage
