If I remember correctly from a previous post, 1966 and 1967 426 Hemi`s were painted race Hemi orange. Is there a rattle can paint available in the correct shade that I might find in my local parts or hardware stores?

Correct, All Hemis through 1968 should be Race Hemi Orange, possible exceptions being LATE 68 engines MIGHT have been Street Hemi Orange (I've never seen a confirmed original though). Mopar used to sell a good match but thier paint is REALLY hit or miss on quality. I highly reccomend Frank Badelsons mix, www.sixpackfrank.com, not available in rattle cans though

Thanks Scott. I was hoping to just be able to pick up a rattle can or two locally. This isn`t going to be a concours correct car and something close enough would work for me. One of our local paint supply stores can mix just about any color and put it into a rattle can but I did`t even want to spring for that method. I`ll find something that will work without spending a small fortune. Looks like I will try the Mopar paint through my local Chrysler dealer.

Scott, your correct but I don`t have a spray gun or a place to spray even if I did have a spray gun. Maybe I`ll talk to my body guy and have him squirt it when the car is at his shop. It`s best I don`t rush into painting it I guess. The Hemi is nearing completion and the car is going to be coming apart soon for a little body work and a repaint. I suppose what it boils down to is if I have the time to do a cheap job and then have to rework it I might just as well do a top quality job the first time and be done with it. Heaven knows we haven`t taken a single shortcut on the build of the engine so no sense cutting corners now.
I tried the link you posted for Franks website and it doesn`t work.

Frank's current price is 68 per pint. You will still need to get the activator and thinner, but his price is about par. Do a google search for 60626, its the code for the engine paint. I just bought some PPG, 1 quart of 60626. PPG changed the formula a few years back and if you want the original color, you need to get the tints with lead in them. DP40 is now lead free, I got a quart of variprime, its still an acid ecthing primer. Here is the PPG formula for PPG DCC 60626 DMC 920 223.4 DMC 906 376.7 DMC 902 387.3 DMC 909 733.3 DMC 907 1368.9 My mixer used grams, this formula might be in parts. It mixed just over 1 quart. I got it in concept acrylic urethane. For 1 quart of paint 101.00, activator, and thinner was another 87.00 The quart of variprime and hardner was another 100.00, for a grand total of 290.00 Tim Quote:
Keep in mind that rattle cars are not cheap, $10-15.00 a can or so and you'll likely need 3-4 cans to cover a complete engine well. Franks paint is about $40.00 a quart, enough to spray several engines and a better product to boot. Doing the rough math Franks is a better deal on all sides.

66 to Early 69 actually. My 11/68 built Hemi-X is the earlier paint.
