RoadRunnerJD master Joined: May 2004 Posts: 5,123 Warrenton, VA	Both are 69 only models The A53 is a Barracuda 340 Formula S The A56 is a 'Cuda 340 Same black grills, same engine and suspension Formula S has Chrome Barracuda name plate and 340S emblems on front fenders and a blacked out trunk finish panel with a FormulaS badge The 'Cuda had Chrome Barracuda name plate and a fish emblem on front fenders, two fake hood scoops, black hood and lower body stripe treatment and a 'Cuda 340 decal on the lower rear front fender with a different trunk finish panel. There were other differences in available options but it was mostly the difference in the outside appearance group

The 440's cars were made from cars originally slated to be 383 automatic cars , anything is possible but it would have to have some factory documentation to back up the claim. That said there were a small number of the very first Roadrunner A12 cars , 440-6pk , to roll out the door with the 383 VIN tag still on the dash, but there is documentation to back that up.

6bblgt I Live Here Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 17,516 Las Vegas, NV	A53 is Formula S with either a 340 or 383 engine. A56 is 340 'Cuda & A57 is 383 'Cuda. It appears there were "promo" 383 Formula S 4-spd cars, dressed as 383 'Cudas with 801 (August 1, 68) SPDs for display early in the model year. The first "M" code 440 'Cudas were C01 (December 1, 68) SPDs & had special VONs. Production of the A56 340 'Cudas & A57 383 'Cudas didn't start until sometime in November of '68. so ..... if someone had a November '68 SPD'd 383 Formula S that had a "special VON" and/or indication of 440 'Cuda equipment being original to the car ..... I guess it would be possible to be one of the first "factory" 440 'Cudas?
