It just seems to me the past year or so or maybe it never stops but there has been ALOT of lucky people that still have both feet.

One thing I cant do is auto trans rebuilds, gonna try soon but my point is for along time I cringed every time I thought of what the crt pro race trans cost me, I run that with a blanket on my street car and now with the procharger/nitrous setup, its like the dana rear end...I never worry and I bought the right trans the first time and still have two feet.

when does the blanket become manditory? I often thought of welding a steel plate under my right foot and up the tunnel.

I hate to see that.
I wonder if the car had a driveline failure recently? (u-joint, drive shaft, rear end)

I would bet it did?? Glad he's ok!

Ok, for the ones in doubt since ive been peppered with "You will burn up a blanket on the street"

Other then needing to get it on the lift and tighten up/tuck the straps again, there has been zero damage or melting of the blanket so that dont hold water, however the next project will have the shield.

What is better, the blanket or a shield???

That is nasty. From the above posts it sounds like the driver is OK.

Having raced a pushbutton 727 for 15 years behind a 440 in a relatively heavy car (3,450 lbs), I've picked up a few habits along the way. 1) Always run a billet drum; 2) never lift the throttle while in 1st gear (like in the case of a red-light), stay under full power to 2nd gear then lift; 3) always run a blanket or a shield. If you're concerned about heat with a blanket, you can fold the blanket up alongside itself to keep the pan exposed; 4) if I ever have a drivetrain issue under full power (blown rear, engine, u-joint), it's a given that I'm taking the trans out, too.

Again, glad he's OK.

Crowerglides were the thing back then. Weren't they a planetary unit? And wasn't it the clutch?

That looks like the blanket that Chuck Lofgren used to sell. I have one on my car as well as my dads. Great fit.... and they do work.

I run a RCI blanket and it wraps all the way around the trans unlike that other pic. It has a few street miles on it and hasnt burned at all yet. It is real close to the collector but as long as its not touching I think your good!

Nope.

Nope, what? He lost half his foot when the clutch exploded, clear through the clutch can and cut the car in half at the cage. If he was running a two-speed it would have been a Lenco, otherwise it was direct drive.

I run the billet drum from crt and the csr trans shield and a crt lba valve body

I used to run a blanket never had any trouble with heat

I had the same thing happen with a buddy having a 727 come thru the floor broke his foot. and messed his car up good

That was all it took for me to go buy the good stuff

I'd have to disagree with that. The cost of that sprag is money better put towards a billet drum and LBA valve body.

The first manual valve body I owned (1970) was made by B&M. It was a LBA valve body.

Right,it wasn't related to a "powerglide" exploding and taking off his foot.
