needing a little help to make sure i am correct on decoding this 440 Motor.Numbers on engine as follows. The ID pad by the water pump housing are E 440 and at bottom of pad is 11 18 HP.On the passenger side on oil pan rail is XS29l9G185539 and on left and right side of block are 253643010.Shows Date code of 9 28 68.To my knowledge it is out of a earily 1969 Dodge Charger 375 HP 440 with a cast crank.Could someone correct me if i am wrong and was wondering what the Motor would be worth. It is complete less carb, dist, and pulleys.Never been touched all original.Ant info would be helpful.Thanks.
No cast cranks in 440 HP motors or standard 440 production motors until around 1973 or 1974 The fifth digit in the VIN code is a L, not a I or a 1 The fifth digit determines the motor size and HP, 1969 375 HP 440 are L codes. The assembly date on the pad is November 18th of 1969, the block casting date is the one on the side, 9-28-1968 that was one well cured block The first two digits in the VIN are the brand and body price codes and the next two are the body style, 2 door hardtop. You got a winner as long as there is no cracks in the heads under the exhaust ports even if there are there fixable , and no cracks anywhere else As far as price it is worth whatever you can get out of it
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
