The vision for this car was to create a clone of the originals as correct and faithful as possible, include as many original, real parts as I could get my hands on and have it truly streetable. The short list of the real parts include the seats and brackets, radiator, mirror delete and most of the motor parts. The restoration was completed about a year ago. Rather than tie up this site with endless pics, the following is a link to some current shots of it.

why the gloss Black paint in the engine compartment? Im not very knowledgeable about the SS cars but it just dosent seem to fit any rhyme or reason?

Beautiful car in any case!!!!

The original cars were painted black in the engine bay and trunk by Ma Mopar. As far as I know they were the only cars that deviated from the usual body color in these areas.

That is one of the best looking clones I have seen, and I have seen LOTS of them through the years! Two questions, it looks like you used 73-76 A-Body single piston discs? Where did you find the heater delete fresh air vent at, or did you make one? I have a real 68 Hemi Dart and it is missing the passenger side under dash vent, so I gotta figure out where to get one at. The cars were painted gloss black on the floors too, mine has it everywhere!

That is a very good looking car!! Good job!! I just got done with my clone. Sounds like we had the same goals in mine but I went with the primer looking paint as you can see.

I love that car! Great job, the blue paint is a nice look rather than the original primer look.

The fresh air vent is a real original piece that I was lucky enough to get from a local guy (along with most of the other real parts) who owned a real Hemi Dart and had been keeping these pieces for himself for many years. The front brakes are what you said and were used as a matter of practicality and streetability. Original front brakes are rare as hens teeth. You are quite correct about the interior black paint (they tell me I'm having memory issues but I can't remember any). I have been in discussions with those more knowledgeable than myself as to whether this was simply overspray from the painting of the door jambs, trunk and wheel wells or different painters at the factory got conflicting instructions. In any case I defer to Jim's expertise in this area. My vision was to paint the car as if I was a racer who had got it in the 'as delivered' look.

very nice job on the clone!!! i would change the shifter to the original style. that's the only "incorrect" thing that stands out to me. mine doesn't have the correct crossram, rad, inner door panels and i didn't cut the wheelwells as high as they did at hurst, so yours is more correct then mine! a positive to doing that is because its a gate shifter (the hurst duel gate) it's hard to miss a shift! i pull the handle towards the drivers side for 1st to 2nd and push towards the pass side for 2nd to 3rd. oh by the way mine is reverse manual shift. jmo, dave

What a perfect day today. I just put on over sixty miles on my Dart today and she ran awesome!! Not a single problem and she ran like a bat out of hell!! I do feel sorry for the guy in the '64 vette that I passed.......his eyes were as big as my velocity stack on my engine!!
