I've got a factory CD/tape deck out of a '98 Grand Cherokee that I'd like to put in a '79 D150. The radio has been on the shelf for a couple months, it's got power and a good ground but no display. Is there a security reset in this stereo ?

My understanding is that a number code must be punched in for the unit to operate. To get the code from Chrysler, one needs the original car's Vin and Serial # of the radio...

Just my $0.02...

You should have two power leads. One hot all the time for memory and one hot with the key on. If you don't have both the radio won't work.

I've had the batteries disconnected from my 2000 ram a couple times and I have never had to enter a code to get the radio to work.

Stumpy's senerio is more plausible.

If its the style im thinking of no there is no security code at all. I've sold tons of those and they do not have a security lock on them at all. I took the one out of my 2000 ram and put it into my 1989 diplomat and it worked just fine. My friend scavenged during c4c a couple of thosehours radios and put them in his his two Dodge Spirts and theythe worked great. Now does the radio say "Infinity" on it anywhere. If it does it wont work because it needs a amp.
