What are the differences between years? I am building a motor for my '68 'cuda from a '73 block. Will the '73 timing cover work with the '68 water pump? I want to use the original radiator.

Thanks!

difference is the timing tab..

68-69 has timing tab on passenger side..

70-73 on driver side...

if you use the 70-73 timing chain cover and 68 water pump you will not be able to see timing tab...

you should match the water pump and timing chain cover

That's what I thought. I will need to get a '68 cover since I will keep the original radiator.

The 273 timing cover and water pump you have on your existing motor should fit just fine on a 340.

I put my '68 318 timing cover and water pump on my 360, no problems, they are all the same family.

I would do that except I already made a deal to sell the 273 as a complete motor carb to pan.

YES. with the hose & timing marks on the same(drivers) side they are a little harder to see but not bad. I have a 65 dart(orig rad & water pump) & '83 318 w drivers side timing marks. No problem. Took a little bit of doing to space the pulleys/alt to get everything in line as the orig cast iron water pump body is not as tall so I played with different bolts/spacers /washers.

the TDC marks on the damper make the side of the engine the timing tab is on...

went you are on tdc on the 70 damper the marks will be showing on the driver side but your timing chain cover will have the timing tabs on the passenger side.

Ah..... I didn't think of that. That's good to know!
