One vote here for - build it yourself! Save your money! I have yet to see anyone’s car that I was impressed with where he/she had his motor done by someone else (with the exception of some SS/AH guys). And I’ve seen a lot of hemis over the years!!!!

Not trying to start anything. It’s just my opinion. Maybe I’m not easily impressed but any car that has a 572+ inch engine that is going high 9’s is sub-par (I don’t care what the weight of the car is).
If you want to hang out the dirty laundry ask A.J. why he needed to drive a Camaro to finish out PRP’s points. Also ask Bob how many times he had to rebuild a certain 528” hemi this year. In his defense he did stand by his work and rebuild it. After the last time the owner rebuilt it himself and got tech advance elsewhere.
And in full discloser my engine spun bearings twice last year (didn’t realize line bore was off) and this year leaked through the head gasket (didn’t know enough to silicon the water ports). But I’m not saying I should do anyone’s engine, either!

Im thinking of taking it to FHO. Thanks
I guess I am the only one to have any negative results from FHO. I have read a lot of positive responses about FHO here, and so I bought my World alum. Hemi block from Tim. I also paid for complete prep and cleaning for assembly. I bought the pistons (CP) from Tim and Stage V heads (bare).
What I received was a block that needed lifter bores honed, ( was part of what I paid for) align honing, and more. Also did not receive the billet rear main seal retainer, or the oil restrictors for the World block. In fact the block had metal shavings on it an when it arrived. The lifters would not even fit in the bores, and I had specified which lifters I would use. I have had good responses from Tim with my questions answered, and if I had FHO build the engine, these problems would have been caught at their expense not mine. Go ahead and flame me now. Mark

I have talked to FHO myself about a project. I have heard that he likes to build the engines his way. I also understand that they are incredibly well built and his reasons for building engines his way are from many years of experience. Seen some very fast FHO builds
This is also the first negative I have heard about FHO.

Another vote for Bob George. The man has been in the game forever and stands behind his work. What more could you want?? In fact, once I get my $$ together I will be calling him about a nice NSS hemi for my 65 Coronet... -Jason

Lots of qualifed engine builders are out there. Everyone has a preference. I used Best Machine on my last build with Modern Cylinder upper end and was very happy. I am doing the same on my new motor. I wouldn't base a decision on this from a forum survey. I would actually talk to some of the engine builders and make an educated decision from there. This whole make a post, and the builder that gets the most that particular day is the best isn't how i would select an engine builder.

I agree with this 110%! I've always preferred to do my own work, then there is only one person to blame when it blows, and you can learn for yourself without the cost of an engine builder/assembler. In all of the engines I have done, my only casualty has been a block that split at the crank mains.
Research it well. There are enough articles and books out there to help you in the course.

my Hemi from BG is closing in on 300 passes that wold include a pass at 8.58.
…In an ex Prostock car? You now have 192 more cubic inches, a glide instead of a 4-speed and almost four decades of additional technology to pull from and you’re only going 3 to 4 tenths faster? BFD
With a chassis only certed to 8.50 by my choice I am not close to using what HP is there., my cam is from 1970 and used in the last three motors. only a .712 lift. the intake suffers from lack of any size plenum and a 1 1/2"spacer would add 40 + HP. it has box stock 35 year old carbs. no need to go faster that's why I have other cars.
3 or 4 ? when new it ran 9.30's so that .8 and not relevant anyway

Right, if performance wasn’t a motivator then it makes infinitely more sense to leave the 4-speed and 396 in it! It would be worth more money, it would be period correct, significantly cooler, a bigger crowd pleaser and so, so much more fun to drive! Instead what you have is just another Mopar with a humongous hemi that runs disappointing et’s. Butch Leal was running high 8’s in ’73 with the same set up under ideal conditions, as I’m sure your 8.58 was made under ideal conditions! http://www.butchleal.com/history5.html
