Supposed to be the original spare out of a 1969 Charger R/T.
Is it ?

If it is , this is the 1st I've seen of a Firestone in a B-body.

I can tell you my October '68 built '69 R/T had a Firestone F70-14 Redline as the spare. I got the 80K mile car in '82 and was so original, I doubt it was changed, but can not say 100% if it was.

I later purchased a July built 318 '69 car that had a whiteline firestone F70-14. As luck would have it, I still have that tire and the buildsheet.

I bought a 69 Charger R/T in 1986 out in Calif from the original owner. 100% original/unrestored car and it still had the brand new F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval white stripe in the trunk.

Thanks fellas,
I've seen Firestones in A-bodies but this was the 1st ( if it's the original ) in a B-body.
Not that it matters much really, I have it dis-mounted to repaint the wheel and it's going back in the trunk either way.

I have seen/heard of the F70-14 Firestone "white stripe" tires used in Chargers, this would be the first "red stripe" I've seen.

In '69 the T83 STANDARD "red stripe" & T82 "NO CHARGE" "white stripe" performance car 14" 70-series tire was of nylon cord construction. Goodyear "SPEEDWAY" & Firestone "DELUXE CHAMPION" "WIDE OVAL" fit that tire type. (these are the tires that were gone in less than 20K miles)

The T85 OPTIONAL F70-14 "red stripe" ONLY was fiberglass belted, AFAIK the Goodyear "POLYGLAS" was the only "major" tire manufacturer that had a 60 or 70-series fiberglass belted tire used as OE in '69. (huge improvement in wear & ride quality)

AFAIK The Firestone fiberglass belted "SUP-R-BELT" "WIDE OVAL" tire showed up for the '70 model year, but not on a MOPAR.

ALL OF THE REPRODUCTIONS (SPEEDWAY/POLYGLAS/DELUXE CHAMPION/WIDE OVAL/SUP-R-BELT/etc.) ARE POLYGLAS (polyester cord w/fiberglass belt) CONSTRUCTION

Are these "B" - Hamtramck assembled cars?

I have NOT seen Firestones on a Road Runner, GTX, Super Bee, or Coronet R/T ..... so, I wonder if it was a HAMTRAMCK thing?

The a-bodies had Firestones for the STANDARD "performance" (non-fiberglass belted) D70-14 & E70-14s ..... so, I wonder if it was easier (more cost effective) to send a truck/train load of Firestones to Hamtramck & include the F70-14s.

I have not seen any decode info for the pre-'71 Firestones.
000130HL is pre-'71

What is the date code on the wheel & the SPD of the car?

please keep this question going-i`d like to find out the real answer . my st loius built charger r/t on 26 august 1968 was coded u65 on buildsheet- i beleive they were firestone tires but i`m not 100% sure-we would have had the answer if the mopar guy who was the middle man between me buying the car in 2000 and sending it out to me here in west australia didn`t change the redline tires that were very worn so it could be moved. he also took out a few items before it shipped-the original spare and jack is no longer there and the am/fm radio is missing which is in the ics of before i bought the car.
it was coded w23 on buildsheet but the wheels are 68 style chrome magnum 500 wheels (no trimring) 14 inch but they had redlines on them.
all the best
frank.

Frank, Is it a HEMI Charger R/T?

W23 in 1969 is the "RECALL" wheels & were available in 15" ONLY on b-bodies.

U65 is fiberglass belted - AFAIK - Firestone did NOT have a fiberglass belted F70-15 tire available in August '68. The correct tire for your car is F70-15 "red stripe" Goodyear Polyglas.

no-not a hemi charger-unfortunately-yes i know the w23 was a 15 inch wheel only-it is wearing the replacement 68 style magnum 500 wheels in 14 inch and they had redline tires on them that were the originals but i never got to see them as they were removed when the car had to be rolling to get it to me . so i better start looking for some goodyear redlines. thanx for the info.
all the best
frank.

Original spare from our old Daytona was a Firestone red line.
