Do the HID upgrade kits on Egag actually provide superior lighting, or are they something tuners play with just for the "look"? Do the ballasts have a long life on these, or are they constantly going bad?

These would be going in a 300M. The OEM high beams are great, but I've never been impressed with the low beams, they don't illuminate very good.

go here first, get yourself edumacated...

Most of the "HID" stuff won't retrofit without spending real coin on real HID...

Thanks Marq! They seem to be experts, I'll check with them before I make any purchase.

I put HIDs in my G8 GT and it made a world of difference. However it has a projector style headlight which works well with HID. Standard flood type headlights don't seem to work as well and can blind oncoming drivers. The ballasts in mine have been working for 2 years now.

I did 35 watts, there were also 50 watt kits. The 35 watt beam is plenty bright enough.

Please don't put HID bulb inside a projector or headlight made for halogen bulbs. Halogen has a different light pattern then xenon gas. The projectors you can usually see little rivets that ripple down from the center of the projector that helps even the beam of the light out to the road. If you place a HID bulb in the same projector the light will be much more uneven and scattered. I plan on retro-fitting HID projectors in my Cuda's headlights. Another thing is be careful with some kits for HID's as they have a Xenon bulb for low beam and a halogen bulb for high beams and if you use your highs a lot this can burn your HIDs or ballast out really quick. Make sure you look for projector kit that has an actuator that actually moves a metal piece up and down making the cut off line for the lights this helps save the bulbs. I would go for it it is a great mod to have and looks good at night.
