Anybody having the experience with these engines? I can get my hands on a complete drivetrain; engine, transmission and all needed computers and cables etc. so am thinking of installing it in one my projects. Just can't justify it with "only" 500hp

How easy is it to increase it to let's say 550's and get a little bit more lopy idle from it? Was guessing upgrade cam, cold air stuff, exhaust and some small things but thought to ask what you guys know and could tell me about it...

Thanks!

Well it's a Viper engine so there is plenty of stuff available for them. I've seen one from Hennessy with twin turbos on it.

yeah, you can make a hell of a lot more power with that v-10 than you'll ever make with a smallblock. That's a fact.

There are plenty of parts out there. cams, heads, headers, valvetrain stuff, you name it...the viper has a nice aftermarket and most of it carries to the srt-10. you could make 700 hp reliably with that thing and there are guys racing them in the 7s in vipers. That's a lot of power.

I would jump into some of the viper and srt-10 boards and see what people are doing in specific.

Just alittle boost on an umodded one will have you flying...

the engine RPM is the part that holds you back in those engines in stock form. they dont like to be spun all that hard. Get ahold of 8valves on here and yellow bullet. He works for the best Viper performance shop in the world and can give you the low down. He is putting one in an old KOS Demon right now

Go talk to the guys on VTCOA

Plenty of folks that have kicked em up with headers/cam change/etc. They respond well with tuners.

Need to take care with blown or turbo'd engines - cant take a lot of RPM and the ring lands are prone to breaking.

If you want to get heavy into it - then it is recommended to build the bottom end with forged parts. (Gen I engines have forged bottom ends, Gen 2/3 dont - not sure about Gen 4).

Thanks guys! Looks like it's no biggie to increase it in a normal manner. Can get my hands on a complete setup for not to much so looks like I gonna build it into my 72 Challenger project. Lot of work but it can be done. Just want some extra hp's and more lopy idle for all the work that's needed.

Slightly gain, so no need for boost and stuff like that. Just wanting a nice unique streetable car in this case.

Thanks again!

If it's a sound that you are looking for - the lopey idle - I'd listen to a few V-10'S with cams to make sure I that's what I liked. My point is the V10's have a different "burble" that many people, myself included, don't like. I've heard a lot of Vipers at the shop I worked with all different mods - cams, side pipes, full pipes, etc., and I never got used to, or liked, the V10 sound. I guess it's an acquired taste - and I haven't.
