Anyone know if later year steering couplers well fit a 64 shaft? My 64 shaft has been off and on by myself and others before me, that the splines in the coupler are shot. I have a new steering gear box and am afraid that trying to use the old coupler would damage the new shaft splines on the box.

Thanks in advance, Larry

Replace your coupler with a borgson u joint for around $65. 3/4 smooth with a 31 spline.

Do you have a part # for this joint?

I was interested so I found a site, not sure what part fits your application. Does anyone know what the spline size is for a 70 b-body with manual steering?

the later coupler will fit the splines of an older box. the problem is that the later coupler uses a spring pin to locate it and hold it in place. the spring pin won't fit the earlier shaft groove. you might need to drill and tap the later coupling for a set screw to fit into the early shafts locating groove.

I did a little "article" for the 62-65 website on rebuilding the original coupler on my '64 Belvedere.

It's not magazine quality or anything, but might be helpful.

Do you have power or manual steering?
