I've got an 8 3/4 out of a '67 Monaco that does not have casting numbers. Is there a way to identify which case this is without taking it apart to measure the pinion diameter?

Numbers on the ring gear: BRJ 11-66, DMS277, HELIXFORM 2070684 2.76

PROBABLY so much grease or dirt build-up hiding those #'s ... but it is probably a 741. NOTHING wrong with that.

Try scraping and cleaning on the drivers side of the housing under where the pinion gears is I have not seen a Mopar third member in 40 yrs that didn't have a casting number there I'm thinking it is probally a 741 due to the 2.76 ratio but it might be a 742

That part number is 8.75 X 1.875" stem, i.e., ...489 case. Home run.

489 ?.. possible ... but the 2.76 gear that is now in my 62 is a 741 case ...and it came out of a 74 Monaco.

The 2070684 ring gear was used in the 741, 742 and 489 cases; the 11-66 date on the gear pretty much narrows it down to a 741 or 742 because the 489 didn't arrive until late '68.

Sorry, that was a ring gear that was used in combo with a few different pinions, as stated.

there were a few units without numbers on them, but pretty rare. Heard they might have been used for off road/racing use. When there were left over stock, they were put into production cars to clean out remaining inventory. I noticed that the case looks silver. Could be factory non-number, aluminum/magnesium case/modified stock unit.
