What is the correct drive line travel (slip yoke) in distance (inches) from bottoming out on the tail shaft when the drive line is installed. Right now my drive line travels 1-1/2" before bottoming out. That's way too much, right? What is the correct measurement?

I have always believed no more than one inch but at least 3/4".

That's what I was afraid of. Looks like I need a new drive line. Thanks for the reply.

And if you've got the factory type rear trans seal with the protruding dust cover the yoke would end up almost flush with it using the 3/4 out from bottoming value... With the driveshaft at 1.5 inches out just make your cocktail and set it on the floor for the ride...It should be all shaken up by the time you get there...

Yep, every stocker I looked at "back in the day" had no more than 1/4" to the boot.

there are some of the trans yokes that have mor epslines in them than others also, so maybe you should look at how long yours is and go from there If it has three inches or less splines insides lengthen the driveshaft, if it is five inches long maybe you can use it
