Some of you guys are real good with this so i figured Id ask for recommendations. 74 Charger 440 bored .030 9.8:1 compression ported and polished 452 heads HP manifolds with 2.5" coming off going into 3" with an X pipe stock 10 3/4 torque converter 3.55 gears I need to make enough vacuum for power brakes. Also the heads have been machined for the dual valve springs, and i would like to use a set I have if at all possible. I have the comp 924-16 springs http://www.compperformancegroupstores.co...;Category_Code=Does anyone have a good suggestion? Thanks Forgot to mention that I am using a Torker 2 intake with a 800 cfm edelbrock carb.

Ok, I will take a stab... Heavy car, moderate rear gear, not much stall, HP manifolds, and moderate compression. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scope.gif) I would go 222int/234 ex @ .050 with around.500" lift on a 114 LSA installed at 110 degrees ICL Don't forget to check for P to V clearance and dial in the cam don't just line up the dots. Have Fun! Arnie

Comp 21-227-4 XE275HL cam. 231/237 duration @ 0.050", 0.525"/0.525" lift, 110 LSA. Uses your #924 valve springs.
Another - Lunati Voodoo #60304 cam. 234/242 @ 0.050", 0.513"/0.533" lift, 110 lsa. The extra exhaust duration may help with the manifolds? Your valve springs should be OK with this one too?
Another - Hughes HEH3237BL cam. 232/237 @ 0.050", 0.540"/0.548" lift, 110 lsa. Not sure about the valve springs here?
I like the Voodoo cam. It does use the 3-bolt timing gear that I like better than the single bolt and pin setup.

Actually I have the Comp XE275HL in my 440 six pack car.
I am not happy with it using the HP manifolds. It has too much overlap for them IMO.
The stock 6 pak cam had 115 LSA
The fast rate is not great in a hydraulic version...
Cheers,
Arnie

All the cams suggested above will take more than a stock torque converter unless it stalls at least to 2500 rpm.

Loose the intake and switch to a good dual plane intake like the Eddy Performer RPM or, if you can find one, the CH4B ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif) I have several motors with the Comp Cams XE---HL cams in them, no power booster though ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) One is a 464 C.I. 440 with a six pak, that cam is the EX295HL grind, very powerful, it has headers also ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif)

engle k56/k58; 223@.050-.504 lift intake and 233@.050-.515 lift exhaust. i've run this with a stock converter and 3.23 gear and cast manifolds. ran 108mph in my 4000+ pound heap. drove good too!

The 230'ish duration cams should match up good with your engine combination, but would work best with a higher stall converter. The 3.55:1 gear is a good compromise ratio as long as your tires size is around 27" tall or less. With any non-stock cam, you will need to re-tune the car. The larger cams will want more initial timing, so the distrubitor will need to be re-curved to take out some of the mechanical advance. The carb may need the throttle blades drilled to pass additional air at idle without having the throttle angle up into the transition circuit of the carb. All the cam I listed are 110 LSA, but install advanced at 106, but you could advance the cam a bit more if you need more low end response.
If this is a true street car / daily driver, then a slightly smaller cam would better match the lower RPM power range, but would work better with a dual plane intake and smaller carb. With 9.8:1 compression I would not go too small on the cam as it may make the engine sensitive to detonation.
