I would change the sender out and if that didn't fix it you may have to get a new gauge.

I have changed my sending unit and tested my gage with 5 volt batt. you think it could be my gage? I may have to send it back if thats the case but i thought if the batt. test was good the gage was.But what else could it be huh?

You can ground your wire at the sender just for a min. just don't leave it on there very long. Turn your key on and it should move over. I think you can take a test lite and put on the sender wire with the switch on and it should flash. I know on mine I ended up and just bought a new gas and oil pressure gauge. I would expect it to be the gauge. Good Luck Ronnie

I can not test it that way for when i turn the key on it goes all the way over and stays until i start the car and then it would go all the way down.Itested all gages with 5 volt batt by touching it to the back of the gages they all moved over except temp gage witch i re placed and now works.I think it moving over with key on is a clue but not to me.I bought the rebuilt cluster from a guy named bob on line with a 96.6 rating he has done fixed temp gage and tryed to fix speedo once im just geting ready to send speedo back again thats why im making sure i do not need to send oil gage.

Not trying to be funny but do you have the correct sending unit?

Cars with the gauges used a different one, looks like a bell sort of maybe 2" dia X 3" tall.

Maybe thats it

Yes, i got the wrong one the first time.I first thought ground problem but i do not think the other gages would work if so.The monting board looks o.k. to. I still think the way it pegs out and stays when key is on is a clue.

When the wire is off the sender, what does it do with key turned on?

By chance did you use Teflon tape on the sending unit during the install? If so that might be keeping it from being grounded

hope you get it working

Still sounds like a sender-switch issue.

sounds like a wiring loose connection/continuity/dead short prob if it does that with the wire off of the eng sender because with no continuity to the sender/ground on the block the gauge should never move
