What is the story with these, are they just an insert? Are they only on post cars, I would assume? Easy to remove or forget it?
Thanks in advance

they are an insert easy to remove, BUT they have a B pillar post too.

I guess question is to become an SE ( or M07 code car ) into a Hardtop. Then the answer is... it is posible with the right parts and some body metal job.

Parts involved:
-FULL PARTS OF ROLLING WINDOW SETUP, from brackets to glass, regulator, etc... the best is get a donor, because a seller around mostly sure won't get EVER for salle the real full setup, including the smaller pieces.
-C pillar sail panel... hard to find in decent conditions
-Rear upper interior panel, matched with doors panels. If doors panels are Brougham, the rear ones to match ARE NOT EASY TO COME BY AND IN FACT VERY RARE.
-Roofrail molding and weatherstrip
-Boomerang kind molding ( or remove all the belt molding set from your car )
-drip rail moldings ( or remove the molding completelly )
-Quarter Jam seals
-felts ( thats the easy one LOL )

Body Job:
-Remove B pillar
-Make a U cut on top of door striker area to be able to roll down the glass and attach the seal, then 3 small holes to seals screws
-Elongate the drip rail

Ah - I've never had the chance to tear one of these apart to see what's going on behind the insert. How much finishing work would I need to do to leave it as a post car, just w/o the opera insert? Trim and vinyl, or would it still need metal work?

if you want just to get rid of louvers, you can, but then will requiere some home made fillers or frame to make it look smooth and nice like this:

The frame replaces the louvers assembly and attaches on same locations and is not more than a small frame to get all the glass edge around covered. Its a plug and play job.

Thats a M07 option only available on 74s ( mostly found on Spring Specials models ). Its a fixed opera window without louvers.

these are not easy to find though, and I guess for a full good look will require to remove inner and outer louvers and of course get the replacement frames inside and outside

You can also cut the louvers gills and refinish the cut areas... or home made the frames
