I Use the Carter 4682 Street / Strip pump drawing through the stock 3/8" line on my 452 in my Satellite. It feeds an 830 DP and I spin the motor to 6500. Car runs 12.0's. While I don't have a visible fuel pressure guage, I've never experienced anything that leads me to believe I'm outrunning the pump. Car runs 112.9 mph, which seems in line with my E.T.

As posted elsewhere, I have to replace my leakey fuel tank and want to get rid of my noisey Holly elect pump while I'm at it. Now I'm considering going to a mechanical for ease and quiet... I have a 500" RB in a '68 Charger that is street driven w/ an 870 Holly and 3/8" fuel line and I don't want to lean out when I'm at full throttle. Am looking at a Carter M4862 as well as an Edelbrock EDE-1723. Mancini claims the EBrock pump will support 600 HP, but haven't heard much about it. Anyone have experience with either or have advice on something else? Thanks!
i've tested both those pumps for pressure and free flow. the carter4862 would pump almost a gallon in 30 seconds and had 9psi. the edelbrock pumped 3/4 gallon in 1 minute with eratic pressure. if i had a thirsty motor the 4862 would be my 1st choice, but the 4862 needs some mods.

Why not keep the electric that you know will feed the engine, just put it on a micro switch on the secondaries. Run most any mechanical that you want. That is the way I run my Cuda. Takes all the guess work out of the mechanical pump.

Stay away from the carter. My self and others have had problems with them stop working. Mine had less than 2000 miles on it before it went.

I agree we had 4 bad Cartes in a row.One lasted abot a week before the arm screwed up and the spring dropped in the pan.One wouldnt even pum right out of the box.Installed Holleys on all 3 motors and no problems.Mine feeds my 440 with a 1050 Dominator and has plenty of fuel.Been at least 7 years since they were installed and still going strong.Rocky
