to start only, as soon as you let up it dies. So it seems to have lost its 12 volt run??? This is in a 95 Dodge 1500 series truck, I just put a transmission in, but didnt do it before..I run out of time, and energy but will look into tomarrow. I really need to get this thing running. Even if It comes down to splicing into a wire and runnning a hot wire from point "A" to point "B"...
I didnt check yet, but if would have got the pickup sensor wires between the tranny and block would this cuase this? Its really the only thing that comes to mind??

Does a 95 dodge Ram even have a Ballest resistor? I dont think they do, but will take a look....If it were a old truck, that would be the plac e to look....

You didn't accidently trash that crank sensor that the trans must snug next to, did ya? Just a suggestion, don't know if your prob could result from damaging the thing.

Do all the dash lights come on when the key is on?

But it sounds like you took out the pick-up sensor or pinched some wires in the trans just take a quick look with a flash light.

pick-up sensor might have allen head bolts ( mine did at least 95 also ) and a pain to get out.

I looked at the wiring diagrams last night.
I can't see where that problem could come from other than the ignition switch, or a burned out fuse.

The power to the start and run both come from the same source. With the exception of at the fuse box. There are a couple of in run only powered fuses.
There does not seem to be a ballast resistor, so I don't see that being an issue.

I would see if you get any other power with the key in run through all your fuses.

Check the ASD relay. (automatic shut down)
