I'm going to a spool with the BBP axles that DR Dif sells on here. I currently have a sbp 8.75 I was told I was gonna need to get a set of b body drums and backing plates. I'm just wondering why?

You will need 4.5 bolt pattern drums and the backing plates to go with them.

SBP A-body brakes have a different "offset". The wheel bearing is machined at a different location, the brakes are smaller and the drum register is smaller, all specific to the 4" bolt pattern.

You could have gotten the new axles machined for your existing brake set-up using a 4.5" bolt pattern, but you'd have to redrill brake drums every time you changed them, IF you could find them and related parts at a reasonable price.

10" B, E, BBP '73 & up A body and F-body are basically the same. M & J body too, I believe. All much easier and cheaper to find replacement/service parts for.

stock A-body brakes are 1 3/4 wide and do not mix with any other brakes.

with the large brake offset you need the large brake backing plates and drums

my moser axles with large brake offset and green bearings 5 on 4.5 wbp made my whole A-body 8 3/4 a 1/2" wider(1/4" each side) in my 68 dart.

i used brakes from a 73 c-body for 11 x 2.5 drums and shoes.

it also used a 7" rim with 4.5 backset to keep the tire rim in the center of wheel well with a 245/60/15 in the fenders of the 68 Dart, lips un-touched.

what spline count and spool are you wanting to get?
I know you can get 30 spline axles in the SBP and still use your exhisting..
I dont know about 35 spline sbpS...

I am truckless..

I ordered my BBP Moser axles with the A-body offset so I wouldn't have to change my brakes. My drums were in nice shape, my shoes and wheel cylinders were new so I figured why change them.
I redrilled the drums myself, using one of the moser axles as a template. Really no big deal.

Most guys will go with the b-body offset axles and add bigger brakes, but no, you dont have to do it that way.
