just got my block back from the machine shop, and 3 of the cam bearings don't have the oil hole exactly centered over the hole in the block. they look to be roughly 1/5 to 1/4 off.

i'm going to take it back and have them redo those, but just wanted to get opinions. i assume they should be as close as possible for maximum flow.

also he said that the front bearing needs to be inset a bit, but that puts the oil hole farther in than the hole in the block.

how is the front bearing supposed to be set?

thanks...

I use to intentionally offset all the cam bearings, except number 4, to limit the oil to the cam bearings Never saw a problem so I started centering them and saw no differences in pressure or life of the bearings or camshaft. Most Mopar lifter bores are way bigger than they should be which causes a lot of lubrication spray onto the cam and drains into the crankshaft assembly which ends up kicking it back into the cam tunnel On the front bearing you want it back far enough so that it does not block off the slot on the front of the block that oils the backside of the can gear It doesn't need to be way back in the block, just enough to allow oil flow acrosss it Is your front bearing groove or not? The Hemi bearings had grooves and the rest did not originally, most of the BB cam bearings I have bought and used in the last several years had the grooves

I'm with cab , I don't see it as a problem , restricting oil to the cam bearings , except #4, is part of the oil mods in the tech archive.

the number 4 bearing is lined up perfectly.

and the number 1 is back far enough to expose the slot that oils the back side of the gear. that is what he explained to me.

ok, i may not worry about it then.

thanks...
