Project is a 448" RB (maybe 530HP), just a low-12-sec street-strip '64 Savoy wagon. Occasional 8-hour highway trip.
Running 1/2" fuel line from tank through filter & Holley 110, forward to a mech pump. From there I'll run -6 or -8 hose to a Holley regulator with a PSI-gauge fitting & into the Holley bowls.
O'Reilly replacement mech pump lacks threaded fittings, and that's the only one they list. I want threads, dang it.
Will a Hemi stock replacement pump have the threaded fittings, will it work on an RB (I would think so), and is a stock mech pump OK for this? Or should I just quit being cheap and step up to a better mech pump? My Street Hemi RR runs basically the same fuel system but a high-flow mech pump, since it makes more power, has the 2 carbs, and turns more RPM. If the electric pump is off, the mech pump can't keep the 1/2" line full & under pressure for very long.

a holley pump won't push through a mechnical pump. ur holley pump should be enough. stay safe, seeya.

the carter mech pumps have 1/4" pipe thread, the edelbrocks have 3/8" pipe thread.

Bought one of those Carter re-pops from Mancini...very happy with it, money well spent, I feel.

Makes sense to have a mech pump in case the Holley quits on the road; even a stock pump will re-fire the car and get it a short distance with the 1/2" line until the PSI drops.
The Eddy, Mancini, Holley & Carter would be a step up from stock. I like the Eddy 3/8" NPT size. The Holley & Carter are both 1/4" NPT but that hasn't been a problem with my Hemi when the electric pump is on.
I guess I need to know what the stock replacement Hemi pump puts out and whether it will have fittings.

Same pump I have run on my car with 1 and 2 carb combos. Have been high 10's at 124 mph with 3/8 fuel line. Why do you think you need 1/2 line?

Not all electric pumps allow "pull-through"; IOW, when they quit the mechanical pump is pulling against a fully or partially blocked passage.

If you want to run the electric pump part time only you will need a pump that allows pull-through or use check valves to bypass the inop electric pump.

john, what check valves to you recommend to go around the electric pump?

What kind of filter do plan for in front of the pump?

I think you pretty much have to pick one or the other because both won't work very well if at all together. imo

Oversize inlet line won't hurt a thing just as long as it's tight/no leaks. Bigger is better with gasoline. Is it necessary with some pumps? probably not with a mechanical pump. It's a good idea for electric though.

1. The electric & mech setup works fine together in my Hemi car. Please see earlier post.
2. 1/2" line is planning for the future in case the Quicker Bug bites me, plus I had a bunch of line, hose & fittings.
3. If the Blue croaks on the road, I'll just bypass it with a union.
4. I've pretty much talked myself into a better/race mech pump instead of the cheaper OEM deal. The rest of the project's becoming over-built anyway; see #2 above.
5. Back at ya, Cab.
6. Same Earl's or Summit filter before the Blue that I use on my other cars, plus a sock of some kind on the pickup.
Thanks to all for the responses, BTW.

Clay Smith mechanical pump will be more than enough alone.

Anyone running the Clay Smith pump? Their website claims 14-16 PSI & 140 GPH - that's huge! $145.00 from them, not listed @ Summit.

For what you want a 3/8 line and either the holley or carter high output mech pumps will be fine.

Earl's and Summit have nice one-way check valves but they aren't cheap, the one in the link below should do the job for less money. With all check valves you have to be aware of the "cracking pressure", the pressure need to upset the spring loaded poppet valve..if it's too high the mechanical pump's suction might not open it. In such cases I just open the valve and adjust the spring to just barely close the valve poppet.

Here's one way to set up the valve on a Holley style pump.

I can tell you haven't run that pump before that picture was taken, have you run it much since?
The inlet fittings are too small for hot weather use or anytime. imo
