How much amp load can they take? I'm thinking of a serious fan set up for my RC for towing. This one to be exact. dual fan with shroud

I'm already running MAD 8 gauge tough wire threw the harness, so...............

anything betwen 50 and 78 amps depending of specific piece. hard to say. Better take it to a shop and test it.

I'd try a 78 amp alt for iirc an 85?? M body. W the add ons on the alt side w relays/all connections esp bulkhead cleaned/checked 4 voltage drops & 2 main in/out bulkhead brass terminals bypassed W Nacho's parallel bypass (easy/takes 2 wires)

As posted, the factory made them up to 78 amps. Powermaster sells a 75 A. Other aftermarket folks push them to 100 amps (eg. Tuff Stuff).

On all of these the idle output is max 50 amps, sometimes less. No matter what you do with the the small case Chrysler alternator, idle output is limited. If you are stuck in traffic and need your fans, the alternator probably won't keep up unless you rev up the engine.

I think you would be better off with a GM style alternator (Powermaster or other) or a Denso. Or get a bracket for the big frame Chrysler alternator from the mid/late 70's. 100+ amps with little drop in output at idle. It was used on heavily optioned Cordoba's and some other models.

If you want to keep the stock look, you can put a new stator into the alternator to boost its output current. 105 amps is possible.

Whoops, that is for the old round back. But it does have the picture. The one you want to use is the: http://store.alternatorparts.com/partnoho-7015.aspx
I have used this company for diode packs, brushes and bearings. They sell good quality products. That said, I have not done their high amp conversion. I have usually been able to find cop car alternators to salvage the stators out of. I have never needed more than 65 amps.

You didn't ask... but I'll add. Its hard to beat the mechanical fan. A thermal clutch with a 6 or 7 blade fan and shroud moves lots of air... more than the dual setup you are looking at I'd bet. On heavy duty applications, that's what you see even on newer trucks. No super heavy electrical loads either and will save (I'll guess) $200+ on a suitable upgraded alternator.

You wii need 50+ amps at idle any thing else is useless plus whatever other loads you are pulling

Thanks guys, I'm playing with those clutch fans now. I've contacted a guy here on Moparts about one of his seven blade fans. I'm running a server duty thermal clutch fan now on the five blade, and really didn't see a difference.

I've got another thread on this with the clutch fans and post my questions in that thread. Learning here, please bare with me. I'm so used to running a direct fans, being the flex fans factory and non factory.
