Okay, I am going from memory here so if it turns out to be partially or completely wrong, don't go beating on me. In 1966, my parents bought a new 1966 Chrysler T&C wagon. IIRC in the owner's manual (when owners manuals still had some technical details) there were two 383's listed, the 270 hp 2-bbl and a 290 hp 2-bbl version. Again, IIRC the difference was the 290 hp was a higher compression premium fuel motor.
If someone has a Chrysler owner's manual from 1966 they should be able to either verify or dispute this. I have a 1967 Plymouth salesman's book and it lists only one 383 2-bbl motor.

Only 1 2bbl 383 offered by Plymouth in 67, that I know of. It's a 270 hp, 9.2:1, w/ 516 heads. Yes, the pistons changed in 68 when they went to the open chamber heads. My Satellite had one of these motors originally. With nothing more than a cam, set of headers, and intake / carb, that old stock 383 pushed my satellite to 13.7's!

I would argue that last bit, but i'd be guessing anyways. I didn't think Mopar did that. GM did that... you could get low and high (sometimes very high) compression 2bbl engines in the 60's. The engine i have access to came from a big Chrysler... supposedly a 300, though i'm not terribly confident in my friend's memory... plus, he's a Chevy guy. I didn't think you could get 383's in a 300. It was a Chrysler product either way... not a Plymouth or Dodge C-body.
I'd be happy if it was a high-comp 383 2bbl. I'm obviously putting a 4bbl on it. I want the most power i can get.

I have two sources... A 'Car Care Manual, 1975' that lists a 67 'G-code' 270HP 2bbl, and a 'C-code' 290HP 2bbl. In 68 the C-code 290HP disappears. In 69 the only 2bbl is a 290HP.
The other source is a Chiltons. It lists only a 270HP 2bbl.
Thats a big jump from a 270HP 2bbl 383 to the 330HP 4bbl.

Thats promising... How heavy was your Satellite? what gears in the rear...???
Mine is going in a light (3200lbs) E-body with a stick. I already have a Street Dominator for it, an 800 DP Holley, Hooker headers, MSD distributor and am looking at that Hughes Whiplash cam.

A friend of mine did this to his hi-milage 383 2 bbl 68 charger... went with the summit 488 cam, new t-chain set, headers, DP4B intake and 750 Eddy carb. Can ran 14.20's driving like grandma. Would have run 13's easy w/ me driving it.

Sorry John, i'll try harder next time. I slipped up.
As for the cam, the draw to this engine is to get it in the car, and driving as quick as possible, and the stock cam will breeze through emissions. Once thats all done, and down the road when i get more money, i want to try out the Whiplash cam from Hughes... sounds perfect. Sounds worth the extra money anyways. Never had a car with a 'big' (haha) cam before... should be fun.
