I just got my car put back together after I had it sitting entirely too long. The transmission was rebuilt then sat for about 3 years or so. Now I have put all new fluid in it, and it will not shift out of 1st gear. Even manually I cannot make it shift. I'm thinking that the governor may have varnished up? Does anybody have any ideas how to check/repair this, preferably without taking out the valve body if at all possible.

Thanks!
Russ

its a lokar kickdown cable setup, and I believe it is set up correctly, hard to tell with the incredibly terrible instructions received with it though.

Eaiest way is to have the trans lever all the way back at full throttle. Then slack it off until you are happy with the shift points. I've had no trouble at all following lokars instructions.

QUICK suggestion ... disconnect it from the trans lever .. tie it back half way and try a quick 1/3 or 1/2 throttle shot.

If you just set it up by the incredibly terrible instructions and you didn't end up doing any modifications to the attachment point of the cable at the trans end then it is anything BUT set up correctly .

To figure out if the lokar is the issue disconnect it at the trans end and go for a short easy drive, if it shifts you have found the problem.

Welcome to the not-very-exclusive club of Lokar victims.....adjusting the cable so that the lever is full back at WOT is the best way to guarantee late or no light throttle upshifts.
