A friend of mine has a 76 360 motor and the top radiator hose is collapsing closed. He said that as soon as he removed the radiator cap, then the hose goes back to round again. Could this be from an old hose or a bad radiator cap?

Thanks

There isn't really any suction on the top hose so it collapsing is a bit odd.

Replace the hose with a good one and the type with the sping inside it will work good. Also replace the rad cap as it has a vacum release valve of a certain vacum and it may not be working. Ron

I have never seen a top hose with spring. As mentioned there shouldn't be suction in the top hose, right?

Facts are stubborn things.

Daa dont mine me as I was thinking bottom hose and saying top hose. You are right as the only top hoses with a spring that I have seen are the aftermarket universal accordian type hose. I forgot to ask but I assume it is doing this after he shuts it off ? If so then I would replace the cap because the vacum release valve could be sticking. Course it cant hurt to replace the top hose with a good brand hose. Ron

I agree. I think the hose is getting sucked down by the water pump.
