I just picked up this big lump as a replacement for the dead 383 in my '64 Chrysler 300.
Stamped on the pad is V 41 with 5 15 below it. No other markings. Block casting number is

1852029-2

RL

11-7-63

It's also orange, the seller says he pulled it from a '64 Chrysler New Yorker. All Chrysler engines that year were turquoise. So unless it got repainted at some point....is this a performance engine from a Dodge or Plymouth? or a plain old truck engine....or?

What it's going in!

V = 1964 Model year car it came from. 41 most likely missing the 3....413 as far as color?? Are those valve covers 4 bolts or 6??

V-41 is a '64 413. Someone probably gave it a paint job at one time. Dave

It's not missing the 3. They were only stamped with the "41" for 413.

MOST passenger car 413's built prior to 1965 were stamped "41" but there were exceptions (300 letter series engines, Max Wedges, etc.)

The year is the letter, the rest is the date code

V=1964 production model year
41=413 cubic inch engine
5-15 is May 15th 1964 assembly date
The carburetor number (3615) is a standard issue 1964 413 unit

I agree with the other poster, it was likely "born" turquoise and was painted orange later in it's life.

Not all 64 413s were turquoise, my dads 64 Saratoga 300 was red from factory. maybe it was a "Canadian thing"

BTW Thats a car engine shown in pic.

May 15th 1964 assembly date? Wow....my 300 was built June 6 1964. Not sure you could get much closer to "proper date coded engine" LOL!

That has the ultra rare cast iron finned aircleaner! Better put it on EBAY for about $5000.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

That would be a cool and unique air cleaner on a rat rod project. to bad it would weigh more than I'd want an aircleaner lid to weigh.

any way to lighten one up?

Canadian production engines were red up to at least 1969.

Sure, put it a brake lathe and take out all but the outer shell.

Then you could polish it.
