I have a 1966 Chrysler Newport Convertible. This car had the original 1966 727 transmission and 1966 383 engine. I removed the engine and put a 1977 440 into the car. I kept the original 1966 torque converter in the transmission. Later, I was informed that the 1966 torque converter was not the correct torque converter for the 1977 engine due to balancing issues. Years have now passed and I am getting back to the car. I called the transmission shop and they wanted to know much more information than 1977, 440, 727, torque converter.

Can somebody help me identify the correct specifications to get this car on the road with the correct torque converter?

You could have the weights welded on what you have. IIRC they are 50 grams each and there are two.

There is a difference in splines on some trannys input shaft. That is likely what they are getting at.

You could run a B & M flexplate that accounts for the weight.

This is all off the top of my head, so check things out for yourself. At least gives you a start. Somebody may chime in with the exact details.

check the front damper on the 77 440,is it a thick bullet shaped and have cast crank only on it?

may have to R&R the pulley from it to see

the spline count and the cast crank are what they need to know.

like siad a local tranz shop should be able to weld the weights on or just get a reman TC from them.

The torque converter shop informed me that they needed to know the spline count (24 or 19), 11" or 12" and the weight desired (50 grams or 20 grams?). Is it possible to just purchase a remanufactured torque converter? I just want to do whatever is easiest and quickest to get the car back on the road.

You could look for a Dayco brand.
