8" cop wheel from wheel vintiques; looks like its hitting the upper control arm. Back space is 4.5". Will an 8 inch wheel just not fit. I want to use a 245 60 15 tire. When I researched this other people said they were using an 8" wheel. Will a wheel spacer solve this??

IMO a 8" wheel is to wide. a 245 on a 8" is really going to ballon the sidewalls, a 7" is better. the first size tire that I wuld put on a 8" is a 275 60 15. a spacer will help but make shure that you have enough threads on the studs. good luck..

I am truckless..

I'm running 8" mag 500s on the front on my 68 Charger. I had to add a.250 billet spacer to clear the ball joint,BTW running 265-50-15s for tires,D.

A 15 inch rim doesn't have a lot of room for the control arm and ball joint. A 17x8 rim fits fine with that much backspacing.

Its been a while, but i think Ehrenberg's 69 Roadrunner had 15x8" supercoupe rims all around, and some odd-sized 285-50-15's on the front. Dont remember if he used a spacer or not. I've seen other 68-70 B's with stock 8's up front. Perhaps the Wheel Vintiques specs were off? Wouldn't be the first time repro wheels came out wrong.

I could be wrong on this, but i thought all Mopar 15x8 factory rims (SC, Ramcharger, Lil Red) were the same backspace? My Ramcharger rims have 4 1/4" backspace. If i'm right then yes, your WV rims were made to the wrong spec. An extra 1/4" in would certainly get you close to the suspension.

I'd never put an 8 inch wheel up front. Don't know of anyone who has. Not asking why either......as I hate that....

8 inch fits just fine with the correct backspacing. Tubular a-arms will also help the situation as will a low profile upper ball joint.

What is the correct back space? It certaintly isn't 4.5". I want to use these 8 inch wheels and a 245 tire

I've run 4.5" backspace 15x8 rallyes for years. With 73-76 A-body spindle type disk brake conversion. I'm pretty sure that 15x8 super coupe rims mentioned earlier are also 4.5" backspacing. Same backspacing as the Ramcharger 15x8 rims.

...And a 8" rim IS THE RECOMMENDED RIM for 245/60/15's.

Is the rim rubbing the upper control arm flange when the suspension is fully drooping down? Do you have factory upper control arms or repros? Did you just assemble the front suspension and have not got and alignment yet?

Are you running F/M/J disk brake spindles off a 73 up B-body, F-body, J-body, etc. I don't think the 1/4" or so extra height would matter. Do you have pictures?

Take something flat and sturdy and put it across the outmost lip of the rim edge. Then measure to the lug nut flange.

This is 15x8 4.5" backspace rims with 73-76 A-body spindles. Look at upper right hand corner.

I have run 15x8 wheels on many cars with no issues. On my gtx I run a 15x8 with 4.25 backspace with 265-50-15 tires. And I have found that most of our old rides love wide tires in the front though they can be hard on suspension parts.

All steel repro 15x8 rims (rallye, cop, magnum 500) are 4.5" backspace that I've seen.

BigD, what spindle setup do you have?

Been running the Ramcharger 15x8s on the front of my '68 RR since 1986 or so, no clearance problems whatsoever. 265/50R15 T/As. Stock spindles & drum brakes. On several other RRs I ran 14x7 Magnums, and clip-on wheel weights on the inside would catch but the adhesive ones mounted just inside the flanges cleared.

Again... for those ov you ignoring my posts because i cant spell...

4 1/4" That is 4.25 inches... that is the backspace on a 15x8 Ramcharger rim. I have one literally 10ft from my computer and measured the damn thing. That 1/4" can make all the difference. I've even had these on the front ov my Challenger. They fit with a 265/50 tire, but not with a 295. Now, if i could get a 4" backspace i could run even the 295's up front.

Are you measureing to the bead or the total outside outermost lip?

I have 15x8 rallyes with 4.5" backspacing I had made up for me. I will measure and take pics when I get home from the track.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to mock up a spacer this weekend and get the no kidding measurement. I put a 15x7 Cragar with a 3.5 inch back space on the car and there is an inch of clearance between the back of the wheel and the upper control arm. This rim has a 235/60/15 tire and this combo is just too small for this car. thanks again.

Mounting face to the outermost point ov the rim. I'd like to get some 15x8 steelies made up right now with a 4" backspace... then i could fit big bad rubber IN the wheelwells on all four in my Challenger.
