on a 69 charger with a 440 column shift automatic do you need the special torque shaft for header clearance?

I would say that you do. I have a column shift small block Challenger with TTI's, and I had to have it. PM John Cambridge, and he can tell you for sure. If you have to order one, get new bushings also.Good luck
