I am going to buy a good mileage, smaller car. I want either a Dodge, Chrysler, or Plymouth. Say between 1990-2003 and automatic. Open on price. Please give me some suggestions. Thanks everybody.

I've enjoyed my 97 plymouth breeze. 2.0 gets 30 mpg, manual trans is even better. I've put 235,000 miles on it with few issues.

Neons prior to 2001 or so only got either the 5sp or the ridiculously oudated 3 speed auto. I think the changeover year was 01 or 02 if memory serves. Anyway, don't bother with one earlier than that because it'll be buzzing at 3000rpm at 65mph. Neons with the stick shift were good fuel misers because of the o/d gear in the 5sp trans. I would get one of those. If the driver of the car doesn't know how to drive a stick, there's no faster way to learn than to be thrown behind the wheel of a stick shift car.

Actually, right now my brother's looking at the stratus/breeze/cirrus cloud cars. Seems the 2.4/auto would be a good combo, at least in all of those years the 2.4L cloud cars got the 4sp o/d auto trans. I know they also made the cloud cars in the 2.0L with a stick shift available, but they must be fairly rare because I've never actually seen one in person, though I think it would be cool.

I had a 1994 Eagle Talon for a while, and it was a great cruiser and very good on gas. Great Highway car.

Not really a mopar, but it's branded with the chrysler emblems, and has the Mitsubishi 1.8 or 2.0. Get a turbo AWD and you can get 28 MPG and still go fast!

Well...learned to drive in a '53 Plymouth and first car was a '56 Plymouth; but...have a Corolla 5 speed and worst mileage with a tank of gas was 40 mpg last winter. Averages 42mpg this summer...

75 dodge colt?

I had one once(it was given to me to pay a debt),it was the nicest driving shifting car I have ever had. I drove it until it died, I took off the plates & left it on the side of the road. Under the hood it looked like a NIGHTMARE.

My 98 5 spd SOHC neon got 42 going to the nationals.

I also have an 02 5spd, gets about 39 om highway. 02 was the last year for high compression, 9.8:1 verses 9.3:1.

I had a 2.2 dodge shadow, my 02 feels like it is bigger(interior), much more comfortable .

It would be tough to beat a corolla for MPG, they are small though.

My 98 Stratus with the 2.4 gets 32mpg on the highway and really performs well. I have put well over 160,000 miles with out any issues other than normal maintenance. I have liked it so much I got the wife a new 06 Sebring with the same engine. Getting 30mpg in that one.

I like Neons a lot. Buying one used, however, is difficult because most were driven by yonger drivers who beat the heck out of them and didn't do great maintenance. The later ones feel like a lot more car than the early ones but are a tad slower. I'd probably go that route. If you could find a decent early Neon with the DOHC engine and a 5-speed it would be great. But the later ones are stouter, physically.

I HAD A '96 2 DOOR SOHC 3SPEED AUTO LOVED IT,I PREFER 2 DOORS AND I DID NOT MIND THE AUTO WISH IT HAD A DOHC MAYBE A STICK. IT HAD 190K WHEN I GAVE IT TO THE EX GIRL FRIEND. I HAD THE TRANNY REBUILT BY THE BEST MOPAR TRANNY TECH IN THE COUNTRY, HE OPENED UP AND FOUND OUT IT DIDN'T NEED AN OVERHAUL JUST THE LAST REBUILDER DIDN'T CHANGE THE GOVERNER SO HE STILL O HAULED ANYWAY.I ALWAYS SERVICE AND TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLES,SHE JUST PUTS GAS IN IT A GO! SO IF IT CAN SURVIVE HER I WOULD SAY GOOD CAR!! WHY DON'T MOPAR MAKE SOMETHING THAT DEPENDABLE AGAIN? ONLY PROBLEMS IT HAD WAS THE DASH WOULD WORK THEN IT WOULDN'T AND THE AIR DIDN'T WORK EITHER I BELIVE I HAD A ELECTRICAL GREMLIN OR TWO.

I'd be all over this Colt, especialy since it alreday has the V8 in it, but I'm concerened about CA repeling the smog exemption one day.

"Hey mister, something's wrong with your car, it idles roughly" - number one comment I got in Israel when daily driving a 70 Barracuda with a lopey cam.

Currently working on - 1966 Dodge A100 van 318/auto
Finally - disc brakes on the front.
In the plans - rear disc brakes, B&M 250 blower

K-car. No complaints about mine. Its and 85 Aries SE with a 2.2 TBI, 48,000 original miles, original AZ car...mint condition. Not a bad car for $600!
