Aren't .040 over 340 stroker pistons hard to find? I remember looking for them once and it seemed like the off the shelf pistons didn't go over a 4.070 bore. That's fine with a 360 but that limits a 340 to a 0.30 over bore. Maybe things have changed recently though.

Yes - good luck finding .040 340 pistons. When you do find them, they are VERY expensive. Ask me how I know.......

Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

I am not 100% sure, but I would bet that Rod (BPE) can get them for you for a reasonable amount.
P.M. him and see. I have been using one of his 4.125 cranks for a couple years of bracket racing and 100+ pulls on my dyno and still going strong.

within a few minutes I found a few sets of .040 over 340 pistons the other day when I looked.

If finding them, or the price makes it prohibitive, then just build a 360 block. They are in every backyard in america. The LA is very easy to come by...the magnum blocks are the PITA to find...at least around here where the idiot jobber rebuilders buy them all up to make crate junk.

You can probably get someone to GIVE you a 360 blcok for the price of just picking it up and taking it away. LOL

If I was starting from scratch with a 340 I'd be looking at
a 4.250 crank kit from Rod Bloomer (BPE). I have his 4 inch
crank in my 360. Mike

Being in S.E. Michigan, I'd start with Best Machine, Muscle Motors and Hughes... all are in driving distance which will help you avoid having to pay to ship heavy parts.
I've bought from Muscle Motors before, and was quite pleased with the purchases. I've also had work done by Chuck @ Best Machine. They don't come any better. Not cheap, but very high quality work at reasonable prices. (Chuck built the 040 over stroker 340 in my '72 Cuda.)
Whatever you ultimately decide, good luck.
