Well I finally made to the track after spending 10yrs building my car
67 Belvedere
440 Ross 11.5 to 1, stock rods and crank, .590 cam, Edelbrock RPM's (with a little bit of work), Harland Sharp 1.5's, Weiand Team G, Holley 1000 HP, TTI headers with 3" Dynomax Ultra Flows, Reverse manual 727, 9.5" Converter 4500 stall, 8.75 with 4.30's, 29x9 Hoosiers

First pass took it easy, left off idle, short shifted at 5000, 3/4 throttle, keeping rpm under 6000 thru traps, goes straight and goes

60' 1.785
1/8 7.741
1/8 mph 89.99
1000' 10.063
1/4 12.003
1/4mph 116.48

Come back pull valve covers, check lash, pushrods, etc. Go up for second pass, another planned easy pass, burnout, stage, tree comes down, throttle cable comes off I get towed back, fix cable, pull valve covers, repeat checklist, go up for third pass, another easy one,

60' 1.740

I hear something faint, lift and coast to a 12.46@ 105. Get back to pits, pull valve covers to check lash and discover #2 bent intake and exhaust pushrods I pull other side, and #3 has done the same. Fearing for the worst, bent valves and/or tagging the piston, I was pretty bummed. Well, I pulled the heads tonight, no bent valves and pistons look fine. Looks like I had some coil bind. I will talk to head guy (a different one then who set up before) and probably go with Comp 928 Springs.

great looking car. Hope you get it sorted out. I feel your pain, I've had some issues with this thing as well. You should be way into the 11's when you get it dailed in.

Good combo, should go very close if not into the tens! Congrats on getting it out without major breakage.

also make sure your pushrods are not binding/rubbing on the heads.

Thanks for the nice words everyone. I did double check that I had no bind or rubbing on the heads with the pushrods. They checkout ok. Here are a few pics. I need to take some better ones though.

Make sure and check the valve springs to make sure if they did coil bind. all 16 If they did, 3 to 5 make sure and replace those valves(all that had coil bind) now, not when the valves fail do to being stressed from trying to stretch the top of the valves, keepers and retainers due to coil bind If not in coil bind you'll need to figure out why the pushrods failed, maybe not thick or stiff enough, maybe got caught under the rocker shafts when assembling the top end BTW, I've never done that Good luck, nice car

I finally made it back to track on Dec. 3. I ended up changing to Comp 928 valve springs and Manley pushrods. I made an easy off the trailer 11.217@120.03 Checked lash, went back for second pass and hood scoop comes off at 1000ft. I end up making 7 passes that day with a best of 10.963@122.70 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5deKmi49hdw
Last weekend I ran my first race with the car at Fontana for the annual New Years Hangover race. I went to the 4th rd breaking out on the brakes 11.018 on a 11.02 dial. I'm pretty happy with car, just need to figure out hood scoop, some more jetting and some suspension work. Hopefully I can get it in the 10.70's with this engine combo.

Nice ride Sam. Thats a B-body I could be seen in. If/when you see me at the track say hi, and if you are running your car and need anything just ask I spend more time at Irwindale, but may need to 1/4 mile a little more this year.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Its nice to finally have a car built for the race track instead of just racing a street car, which I have been doing for the last 18 years. Like I have mentioned before, I work the starting line at Fontana when I'm not there racing, so any of you that just want to tnt and not bracket race, let me know. The new manager has been open to letting people tnt at bracket/points races. The New Years race last weekend had several people doing just that. We have a Summit race on Jan. 21-22 that any of you are more then welcome to come out and just tnt. The track is usually a lot better since there are fewer street tired cars tearing it up. Please feel free to pm about it.
