was coming home from car show doing about 55 mph. feels like carb starts to load and I get this very loud stacatto popping from the exhaust (left side). Pulled over, checked everything. Started back up fine and ran smooth but no oil pressure. Towed it home and found 2 bent pushrods in the valley from #1 piston.
Might be worth noting that when I go highway speeds I am right at the point where the secondaries start opening and it seems to want to load up. This happened once before but it just cleared itself out when I gave it a little burst of throttle.
I have yet to pull the manifold but the rockers look OK.
This is a 499 max wedge cross ram roller cam and rockers. 12.5:1

Any ideas???????

NO OIL PSI??

first thought, rod bearing loose, and caused piston to kiss valves, whick bent pushrods?? Dont know without seeing it, but Its kinda hard to say.

Id think you would hear a rod though.

Lets see some other opinions.

BUMBER for sure though

The lifter popped outa the hole and you are loosing your oil pressure there. I have had a rocker shaft bolt come loose bent a shaft push rod fell out and the lifter popped out and had no oil pressure!

i didnt even think about that, but would a roller lifter with a tie bar fly out?

Mine was just a hydrualic cam at the time. I was stumped until I pulled the intake. It was a real easy fix as long as you didnt run it with out oil pressure for awhile.

Thats what I would think... if both push rods on the
same cyl are bent and gone then most likely both lifters
ar laying in the valley with the push rods... now
you need to pull the intake and also find out WHY
did the push rods bend

I would have to agree with Mr.P. on this. Check the other rocker arms and see if any have become loose for whatever reason. That might tell you that the rockers on #1 came loose and then let the pushrods come out, get bent and then the lifters popped out losing oil pressure. If you have the RPM's up high enough so the secondaries are about to open, then I would say you had enough RPM to throw the lifters out of their hole.

Too much carbon deposits on the pistons will remove clearances that could cause a valve to stub itself and take out the weakest link in the valvetrain.

Just sayin', that's all.

That's what happened to me about 6 yrs ago. I snapped a push rod and bent the other one on the same cylendor. That happened at the end of a pass. My problem was the crane adjusters.

Check to see if you have a broke valve spring.

And either send those roller lifters out for inspection or throw them away and buy new ones. Too much lash will kill a roller lifter quicker than not enough oil. The roller does not like bouncing on the lobe.
