Does the park position still keep it from moving?

Well that rules out the diff, driveshaft, and outout shaft. Converter bolts and oilpump tang may be semi-easily checked just by climbing under it. That's all I can suggest before dropping the pan. I am not a trans guy but have done a half dozen or so 727s.

Pull the dipstick and see whats in the fluid. Metal means money. Friction material isn't quite as bad.

Pull a cooler line off. Start the car with the transmission in neutral. If the pump and converter are working the fluid will blast out of the line. If the fluid simply drains you know the pump isn't working.

I'll vote for broken pump drive tangs. A broken hub usually causes a massive fluid leak.

I won't be able to pull the tranny for a couple of weeks. What would make the pump tangs fail??
It's a 904 they are weak STOCK , why do you think the factory didn't put them behind the 340 ?
