Ok, I know for the most part big block Mopars run optimally with advanced timing set at anywhere from 32 degrees to 38 degrees. The part I would like to know is why do some people have it all in at different rpm levels

For example I run 36 degrees all in at 3000 rpms. Now others I've seen with similar builds will run 36 at 2000 or 2500? My noob question for the night is why? What advantages does this create or in some cases limit?

Thanks again folks just curious.

my timing curve is 18* under 500rpm & then 23* til 4800(5600 stall verter)& then it's 36* from there on till 7600 where it drops back to 30*.(only rev to 7300 across the line) that means went i start up it's not kicking back. while i drive the pits it's stable at 23* even when i'm on the transbrake limiter, but as soon as the limiter is off the verter flares up to 5800 & the full timing comes in as it passes 4800 rpm. i set my brake limiter to 4400, seems to work well without cooking the trans fluid. my plugs are always clean with this set up.

The use of the car/engine... all are not equal...
I have mine set up so it will retard the timing for
ease of starting then at about 1400 its advance
to 34*... its all in by 1800... but its race only

I myself dont like it locked out... 1 engine is and
once in a while it kicks back... I prefer advance
it never kicks back(and yes I have the ignition on a
switch) but if I mess up and its on when I start cranking
it will fire up fine with the advance
