Ok I just got my Dana 60 narrowed. Its 50 5/8ths right now. The builder gave me dimensions to have the axles cut 23 7/8ths for Driver and 21 7/16 for pass side. Does this sound right? I thought the 2 sides were only 1 3/8ths difference? I have to send these off and I want to be darn sure i give them the right diminsions.

Also anyone have any feed back on Moser on cutting and resplining axles?

Depends on whether or not the pinion is centered, the 1 3/8" difference is only if the pinion is offset the standard Mopar amount. (1 3/16")

Give the axles to the guy that did the rearend and have him send them off ... if they're wrong he's on the hook !!

If you ever do it again, have everything done by the same guy !!!

Talk to Moser first! let them know what you have and what the measurements are.
I just had a set for my 8-3/4 done by them and they do good work.

I had a recent dealing with Moser .... and it was uNreal. I asked about TWO narrowed 8 3/4's complete and out the door. Via email .. in writing ...what is not to uNderstand ?

I talked about timkins ..and he quoted on greenies. I wanted them to supply the housing cores ... he kept asking what I was going to send them. Asked him about the time-frame on the build .. he never answered it.

THIS happens a lot ... I asked a guy who was selling a diesel-pusher motorhome how many basement storage compartments there were, the fuel capacity and the mpg(after he claimed excellent MPG) .... and it took 5 emails for him to answer the Q's ....

Dana 60 axle length is proportional to the tube length.

In other words, if the Driver's side tube is 1/ 3/8" longer than the Passenger's side tube, the Driver's side axle must also be 1 3/8" longer than the Passenger's side axle.

I have had many dealings with Moser over the years. I actually took an overnight trip to Portland Indiana last fall to drop off an 8 3/4 to be shortened along with the axles. I dropped the stuff off as they opened in the morning and picked up the finished product after lunch. Great work and nice folks IMO and a nice part of the country to visit.
Just my experience.

Right now my rear is at 45 3/4.. flange to flange. I need it to end up at 50 5/8ths total with brakes. Which im using 8 3/4 10" brakes. I called the builder last night to find out if his numbers were wrong and he said he wrote it down wrong. Numbers now are 22 15/16ths and 20 1/4. To me these still dont jive.

can you tell me how I can measure myself?

If the bare housing is 45.75", the assembled width will be (45.75 + .25 + 4.8 + .25) 51.05" with drums installed.

What is the length of the housing measured from outside edge of center casting, to outside edge of housing end...

Driver's side?
Passenger's side?

and assuming my rear is 45 3/4 Cass what lenght would the axles need to be? I get 25.212 and 23.8375 for lenght using my spread sheet.

45.75 housing with the typical mopar pinion offset would have 23.6875 right axle and 25.0625 left axle if you want to be exact

No No No... we talked about this already...

housing measured from outside edge of center casting, to outside edge of housing end

He's talking about the same spot I was with you... where the tube inserts into the housing, NOT the housing centerline. Those measurements need to be 1 3/8 difference. the center section should be 17.5" wide.

The measurement you SHOULD get are right at 13 7/16" pass side and 14 13/16" drivers side

Ok now that puts it in perspective. Ok so I need these measurements. Ill get them tonight when im home. and remeasure the housing width.... And see where I come up at. Thanks for your help Rob and Cass and others much appreciated. Some times you just got to draw me a picture.

You still never answered an important question...is the pinion centered or offset the standard Mopar amount?

Well it was sort of answered. I need to measure the tubes to be sure it is offset like it should be.

measure ments are 45 5/16s over all 14.687 driver side and 13.250 pass side. it was actually between 1/16th on the off set between 1 3/8ths and 1 7/16ths

I like to run a 1.75" axle end gap in a Dana 60.

Resulting axle lengths are:

Driver's side 25.34"
Passenger's side 23.90"

Assembly width will be 51.23"
