What kind of hp & tq can be expected out of a low comp(7.8-8.2) 440 with a whiplash cam/lifters, valve spring change, intake, 650-750cfm carb, & headers?
Or are we better off with a 9.5cr 383 with nice (240-250 .510-.540) solid cam?
This will be going in a 2500lbs 46 Dodge truck rat rod with 727, 2500-3000rpm vert, 3.55 rear, & 27-29" tire. Thanks

its made to work with the low CR in the smog 440 engines.

it will make it run like it should have and has that choppy chop sound to it.

its on my hit list for my lopo 78 MH 440 in my 88 truck

I'll guess 300 for the 440 and 383 or better for the 383. 9.5CR is hard to get on a 383 but if you have it and a 240-250@.050 cam it will be a screamer. With that much cam, higher stall may be needed to get decent performance.

If rebuilding the 440 with higher CR is not in the cards, how about a 383 with 230-240 cam? It may work OK with 2500-3000 stall.

440. I believe the extra 57 cubic inches will more than make up for the lower compression.
