not sure what else to call it...but on a 98 Dakota I'm working on, the parking brake cable is made up of several sections that are held together with "clips"

each end of the cable has a block that's presumably crimped on, kind of like fishing weights on a fishing line. these ends are what locks into the clips to hold the different ends of the cable together.

well, I just did a swap to 03/04 rear disc brakes, and need to get the parking brake hooked back up. but to do that, I need to cut about 4" of cable out, because it's too long.

what's the best way to try to tie the 2 ends of the cables back together? any way to copy the factory 'crimped ends" to the cable? or should I look at something else?

here's a pic. as you can tell, I need to cut one cable by about 12" to get it to work, but then I'd lose the end and would need to re-do it.

Those are used quite a bit.Really not bad to take apart. You might be able to find a shorter cable. That or find someone that makes cables and have a new end put on.If you only needed to shorten a few inches they make a part that attaches to the cable and pulls it to shorten it.They are usually in the Help section at most parts stores. They take up a few inches but a foot is a lot.I probally have some of them buried in the garage somewhere.Rocky

I did the same conversion on my Charger severla years back. The parking brake cable ended up being about 3" too long and I couldn't get it to tension on the new calipers.

Give InlineTube a call. I told them what the issue was and that I needed a cable 3" shorter than the stock and they sent it right out and it fit perfectly. They were very resonable with the price as well...maybe 20$ or so?

I wouldn't try crimping that myself and have that end fail when you might need that parking brake the most
