I had one of my springs pop off on a hood hinge --it is still attached in the center only came off the peg and sprung open.

I know I can get to it through the access panel.

Is there any trick to putting this back on.

I'm not sure it will be easy with the fender on but I would use vise grips and leather gloves

yup. tricks to remove the hinge assembly from the car (come out through the inner gender splash shield). then you have to preload the spring about 1 full turn

hope that helps

Yup, you can access it with the splash shield removed. Get one time around on the coil, get it over the tab, hope it don't do it again.

I had to do the same thing, it can be done but it's a pain. Mine did it 3 times. After the last one I got the coil on there and zapped the end of the tab on the corner with my welder, enough to create a stop, just to pin it on.

The other option to stop it happening again is drill the peg bit that the spring sits over and put a washer on it with a split pin or a bit of wire through the hole you drilled to keep it on.

I ended up taking the hood hinge off and putting the spring back on---once remounted a couple of sweeps of the hood and it was almost off again.

Luckily I had an extra set of hinges and swapped out the bad one---the shortest arm had a bend in it-

Thanks for the suggestions
