I have a fbo ignition set up in my car that is 2 years old. I have the coil mounted to firewall with a metal strap bracket, with car running if i touch coil bracket or firewall around bracket i get a slight shock nothing horrible but certainly some. Is this a sign of bad coil, bad wires or bad ground somewhere? I am thinking bad coil but before i call fbo i thought i would see if i should check other things first.

Is it a continues shock or a pulsing shock

Best way i can describe it is constant. If i hold a long screwdriver with one end on head and leave it about 1/16 off coil bracket it will continuesly spark in gap.

Sounds like the secondary so it must have lost the
insulation inside the coil... time for a new coil

Just to make sure its not the ground, I would take a jumper (not too small) from the coil bracket to a good ground on the engine. Might also try going straight to the negative post on the battery - - I would try the engine block first.

Also make sure the coil is not too dirty. That can cause the voltage to track. If dirty clean with denatured alcohol and clean cloth.

Well I called Don at fbo and he said my coil wire must be bad and the coil is just trying to jump to ground the easy way. I ohmed my coil wire and it is 180 ohms and the wire is about 20 inches long. The wire should be 150 per foot per description on summit's website. Do you think I should by new wires or coil?
