This Crower solid flat cam came in a motor I bought. What do I all need for it to run decent in a 440? What CR, TQ converter, rear gears?
It is not for a all out race car but a Rat Rod truck (2200lbs). I want it to sound good, run good, and not fall on its face! All out HP not a top priority. It will have lake style headers and a sheet metal tunnel ram with two Predator carbs.

Cam Card Info
Intake Duration 304 lift .548 lash hot .022
Exhaust Duration 310 lift .557 lash hot .024

This info is for degreeing cam only. Correct only at .05" tappet lift

Intake opens at 20.0 BTDC
Intake closes at 52.0 ABDC

Exhaust opens at 62.0 BBDC
Exhaust closes at 14.0 ATDC

Lobe Sep 110

Duration at .05"
Intake 251
Exhaust 255

Lobe lift
Intake .365
Exhaust .371

Just trying to deside if I should use it or dump it and buy something better?

Around 391 gears in rear and a 10" converter with about 2,800 or 3,000 stall this is a start . Good luck.

If you don't want it to fall on it's face you need the right convertor. The induction is too large so you would want like 4800- 5000 stall.

I digress... don't build a whole engine based on a used cam...

With your goals I would look for something in the 230 to 240 degree intake duration at .050. That will give lots of mid range punch that makes it fun to drive. It will sound good also. 250 deg @ .050 in a 440 is pretty racey.

Hughes has some nice solids in the 230-240 degree range. They usually have a 108 degree lobe seperation angle which improves mid range torque and acceleration... and adds a bit more lope at idle. A cam in that range should work with 9.0 - 9.5 cr with iron heads and a point higher with aluminum heads. With good quench the higher end of the CR range should work fine... without quench the lower end of the CR range would be safer.

I'm not an auto guy but I'll say those cams start to build torque under 2500 RPM so 2500 to 3000 stall should work fine for spirited street driving. A bit more for optimum 1/4 mile times. The truck is light so you shouldn't have to go crazy on the convertor.
