On your 72 It's likely original and never got stamped, I've seen a few examples of VIN stamps that got missed on either the trans or engine, seems most common with LA.built cars, especially really sloppy stamps. If yours is a warranty block it will provide other clues and was almost certainly installed somewhere other than the production line. Post some good pictures of the front and sides of the block if you can.

My '71 Barracuda, despite being all orignal paint and never having been apart, had no VIN anywhere on the core support.

i have a 71 barracuda that there are NO VIN #'s on the core support OR the cowl.
the car didn't have a engine, trans, fender tag, or build sheet when i bought it. the car was also in a fender bender so the upper radiator support was replaced with a used one by me.
the car will be a modern cruiser so numbers aren't important to me.

perception is 90% of reality

Years ago, I looked at a 70 hemicuda. It had the same. No numbers stamped on the cowl nor radiator support. No Data Plate. Did not even have the holes drilled.
After some research, it turned out to be a Body In White from the factory. Some how, some time, it recieved a V.I.N. plate.

i thought the numbers stamped on the core support and the sail panel were the build sheet production number--that is why the build sheet is important--you cant see the sail part unless you pull the rear window out---bob

Scott

Do you want pictures of the both sides of the block and and do you want the hole side. Also do you want the whole front? What are some other ways you can tell if it is a warranty block?

Both entire sides and the entire front (must be clear non blurred pics). I won't say all the details but I'll point some out if I see any indicators.

I have tried to post pictures but it doesn't work. What is your e-mail address and I'll e-mail the pictures to you direct.

Thanks

I've seen several that are hard to read. I have a 72 340 that is missing the second digit in the sequence # entirely.
