I am bout to loose my mind. From the top.

I bought the piston stop you all said and with my heads on i had to,it worked great got equal numbers on both sides. So i took the stop out and turned the engine(not the degree wheel) to tdc.

I turned the engine clockwise and found max lifter lift(solid lifter, dial mounted solid reading retainer.)....i then zero'ed the indicator.Turned couter clockwize .150 then back to .100.No what i get a reading of 76.Ok now i go clockwise .100 and i get a reading of 116 or so..never enough to to add then divide to even get in the ballpark of 104-108.What in tarnation am i doing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never check the timing pulling it apart it has a multi postion crank sprocket with the circle being left of the key.I installed a 4 degree bushing in the timing gear to get close then take the reading,,but the .100 after peak lift is never enough degrees to come out right.Help me please..my last day off for quite awhile

one thing: don't ever turn the engine CCW. Always CW, until you get your .050 before max lift and .050 after max lift.
(you don't have to use .050 as long as its the same number before and after)

Thanks brother,i think i just realized my prob(very stupid) after i read .050 befor i just went on to zero not .050 after.I though though you backed it up a touch for chain slack?I just backed it after going past .050 before peak then back to .050.

Ok back to the shop i'll post if fix my prob..thanks for the reply.

I sseriously think i've smelled to many paint fumes

Pick the one that makes the most sense to you and follow it to the letter. There is more than one way to do it and any of these will get you where you need to be.

Best suggestion I can make is kick out all of your buddies before trying to do this. You need full concentration not a bunch of wisecracks and horsing around in the background.

Oh man thanks for the links,i stored all of them but i figured it out,i was not going past top lift to .050 after measuring .050 before.I was just going back to zero .Cam center line is now exActly 104 from 108 on the money with the bushing. Was ripe to put whole engine back together but the goof before me used the old stamped rockers and they have over .040 wear on bore..they rock all right .
Thank you guys.
