So do you guys drive your cars in the rain when you have a hood scoop of some sort? Will the water get into the air filters and some how ruin the engine? Just curious. Because I just figured that the the more air you get in the filter, the more horsepower you will get in your car.

I used to do it almost every time it rained. My 72 demon with a snorkel scoop was my daily driver for a couple years. As long as you don't get the distributor wet on the inside you should be fine I think.

if the air filter gets wet, it will run like crap. I had a heater hose blow and the open air cleaner I had got soaked, and the engine almost quite before I got stopped.

rain, no problem. you wont get nearly as much rain/water into the air filter as when a heater hose breaks next to it.

you might be down some on power from all the humidity, but it'll run fine.

I've slowly poured water down the intake before on a running engine as part of a "steam clean the top end" strategy. I was careful to not pour the water so fast that it hydro locked, and had all kinds of steam and gunk coming out the tail pipe.

I guarantee that you won't get THAT much rain water while driving, unless maybe it's a monsoon.

Didn't Ma Mopar build these cars with open working scoops from the factory and they are still around and running?

Never an issue with any of the cars I have had over the past 28 years and yes most of them had open scoops..

No problems with my Duster. I might get a few drops on my air cleaner lid.
