a friend of mine has a 68 GTX with a 440. its a newer police pursuit motor(cast crank) with 915 heads. it still has the bone stock camshaft in it. he wants a bigger cam to increase performance. still has stock intake and exhaust manifolds, and 750 edelbrock carb. I told him the factory 68 440 magnum cam would be a good choice. What are your thoughts? thanks. He does drive the car quite a bit.

I'd start with a set of headers and an intake before I went to the camshaft.

I agree... you will base your cam on your gear ratio, stall and what intake and carb setup you WILL have.. Unless you plan on keeping everything else stock...

he does want to keep everything else stock, thats why i thought of a stock 440 magnum cam.

Then in that case, yes you're right, the stock HP cam would be a good fit. Another decent choice would be the lunati voodoo 60302, it'll be similar in spec to the stock hp cam.

My almost bone stock 67 GTX went 13.82 (14.20 w/ stock cam) by using a Summit 488 cam, CH4B intake and the tiny stock carb. On street radials, thru the logs and complete exhaust. Automatic w/ 3.55's. Hi-Po manis are fine if you stick with a mild cam. I'd also consider swaping the intake out for a CH4B they look almost stock. If you grind the Eddy offf and paint it 90% of the donkeys wouldn't even know it wasn't stock.

I chose the voodoo 60302 after a lot of debate on which one to run. I could not be happier. 67 915 headed 440, performer intake with a 850 cfm TQ and manifolds. I have a solid 16 In. of vacuum at idle and is a brute from idle right up to 5500 rpm. No problems with my power brakes at all.

My 68 440 has the Voodoo 604. 513/533 Holley street dominator intake and an 850 TQ with 3000 stall 3.55 rears. Stock manifolds with hemi style mufflers. 15 inches of vac at idle and it idles smooth at 850. Cam is not lumpy at all. Idle's like a stock 68 HP motor. Makes great power. Pulls hard to 6000. I love it.

Yeah but it sounds like he's got a low-cr 70's 440. I put a 60303 in one and it was okay, but I had 3.55 gears and headers. His combo sounds even more tame so I bet he'd want to go a lil milder.

The Lunati 302 is aimed at this type of application
