I saw this asked about a week ago, but I never read the replies. I have a 440 Source rocker set-up on my Indy SR heads, but I'm about to change over to either Indy or Harland Sharp rockers. It seems like the rocker shafts would all have to be the same diameter, because otherwise they wouldn't bolt onto the heads correctly. Is anyone using 440 Source or stock shafts with Indy, HS, or other brand rockers?
Thanks in advance for any help.

from what ive seen, the shafts are the same O.D. im using stock shafts with crane iron rocker arms. On a motor had had in a car back in 05 i used stock shafts with erson iron rockers and havent had any problems with them.

Some rocker arm mfgr's recommend hardened shafts if you are using roller rockers.

Short answer, No.

Needle bearing rockers require a true .8750 rocker shaft that has a hardness of 50 hrc or more. Smaller diameter soft OEM shafts equal eventual disaster for needle bearing rockers.

Bushed or plain aluminum rockers need a hard chrome plated shaft to function correctly. Shaft diameter is not such a critcal dimension as it is with a needle bearing rocker. Most likely an OEM sized shaft will fit the bill as long as it is HC plated.

Stock steel stamped rockers can live with OEM shafts, which are not HC plated.

I have used the 440SCRAP stuff and wished I had not. I have used Indy rockers and got a refund. I spent the coin and got the HS and they were just right.
