Need to get the chrome redone. Its out of the car,but how does the track separate from the chrome piece.Looks like some rivets to drill out.Any ideas how i would reattach it? Might be easier to track down some better ones

It is a difficult part to redo, as you are finding out!

You will notice that the factory did not use a rivet to attach the chrome arm to the metal frame. There are two cast in stand off at each attachment point and one of them will be peened over (very much like a rivet) to hole the metal frame to the chrome arm at three locations.

Looks like they factory only used one of the peened over stands at each attachment point so you could grind them off (the three attached) and there would be three more you could use to re-attach the arm to the frame. This gives you a chance at removing and reattaching the chrome arm once in its life.

I tried to do it this way and I could never get the unused stand to peen over without damaging the chrome arm - I ruined a number of them experimenting.

I now drill the stand that is peened over to remove the metal arm and then continue until I have drilled through the chrome arm. you will see this hole now from the outside, but when the door is closed it is under the weatherstrip and not seem. I countersink bore the outside of this hole and use a very small stainless countersunk head allen head cap screw and a nut on the inside to hold the metal arm to the Chrome arm. You can polish the head of the stainless cap screw and it is hardly noticeable even when the door is open.

Not at all easy, but really the only option to clean up the vent window frames.

Thanks for the reply John.As you say, doesnt sound easy. Not quite picturing the countersink bore part. Are you saying the allen screw sinks below the chrome arm?Could you use a chrome screw flush with the outside of the chrome arm?

I will throw my in here,

the stubs or nibs were probalby orbitally rivited on , not peened.

You could probably do the same with a countersink bit in a drill press running backwards, the heat from the rivit tool melts the nib and it closes down on the mating part.

Other members have posted that they used epoxy to reassemble the two pieces. There is a screw at the top of the frame that holds it pretty well by itself...
