Hello,

For several months I've been beating my head against the wall looking for the vinyl roof trim for a 70 Challenger SE. I've been lead to believe that the SE trim is 3/4" wide while the regular vinyl roof trim is only 1/2" wide. I've also been told that the SE trim mounts in a different location. Every once in a while I run across someone with trim for a standard challenger, but I've had no luck whatsoever on the SE trim.

Can anyone definitively state that the trim is, indeed, different between the two models? Also, is anyone aware of any company planning to repop this trim?

Thanks,
Danan

roof mouldings per '70-'71 Parts Catalog
1970
Barracuda - BH23, 'Cuda - BS23, Gran Coupe - BP23 (w/vinyl top & two-tone) = 3419782/3419783
Challenger - JH23 (w/vinyl top & two-tone) = 2965408/2965409
Challenger R/T - JS23 (w/vinyl top & two-tone) = 2954408/2954409 I'll "assume" typo
Challenger SE - JH29, Challenger R/T SE - JS29 (w/vinyl top) = 3514058/3514059

1971
Barracuda - BH23, 'Cuda - BS23, Gran Coupe - BP23 (w/vinyl top & two-tone) = 3419782/3419783
Challenger - JH23, Challenger R/T - JS23 w/o A78 (w/vinyl top & two-tone) = 2965408/2965409
Challenger - JH23, Challenger R/T - JS23 w/A78 (w/vinyl top) = 3620506/3620507

Was NOT expecting to find different part numbers '70 SE VS. '71 A78!!

Great info; thanks 6bblgt!

But wow...that's worse than I suspected. The follow-on questions:
What's different about all these p/n?

Is there any reasonable amount of interchangeability between them?

Assuming the trim isn't NOS in the wrapper, how would you know what you're looking at if you picked it up at a swap meet?

I'm really wishing that this car were just a regular R/T!

I've seen a width measurement comparison between S/E and regular Challenger trim. Just search around more on the net.

IIRC, there were picture diagrams even.

Yes, the SE trim is different from the standard vinyl top trim.
Also, the SE trim mounts a little further down from the back window I believe.

That IS interesting. I hadn't considered that the A78 trim could be special. I won't know without looking at one, but I suspect the difference is probably in the clips that hold the trim in place. Those part #'s may be for the trim WITH the clips.

The T/A hood trim is the same as a regular challenger, but the retainers for the T/A are different, so the T/A trim uses a different part #. I suspect the SE vs A78 is a similar situation.

Actually, the SE trim mounts further up towards the back window.

Does anyone have some 71 A78 trim?

Be interesting to see the difference.
